  • There's at least 3 of pages of segments here- navigation at bottom of page will allow you to toggle back and forth. Howie has 1400+ segments on VeloViewer to comb through, so more will be added over time.

Return From secret science boardwalk

Location: Mer Bleue at end of Dolman Ridge Road
https://www.strava.com/segments/27278933

Just off Anderson Road, about a kilometer down Dolman Ridge Road, is a gate. On the other side of that gate is a paved road that gradually begins to deteriorate into gravel and eventually swings hard left into a field.
In the easternmost corner of that field is a little pathway that takes you to a narrow boardwalk and into the middle of a swamp. 150M there is a gate on the boardwalk and you can go no further. What's behind the gate? Well some sort of scientific research involving many other little boardwalks you can't reach. That's okay, the view from the boardwalk looking over the water is one of the nicest views in Mer Bleue and I doubt many people know it's there. Now you do.

There's not a lot else going on here, apart from some exploration of the area turning up a lot of pot plants someone is growing in the fields on either side of the road.

The ride back up from the boardwalk to the gate is a nice one. It's a 2.5km stretch with no cars, and relatively few people apart from the occasional dog walker. It's a nice complement to some of the other  wooded trails in Mer Bleue that have a lot of roots and generally a lot of people on them. Still, you can connect up a bunch of those trails, this segment and some other nearby areas like "The Secret Way" to get to Green's Creek and the Prescott Russell Trail to connect you to other nice areas to ride in.

It's worth riding once just to check out this end of Mer Bleue and the bog.
